"Just a 7 minute walk from the airport’s main entrance CitizenM Schiphol in Amsterdam is perfectly located. As you walk in a friendly staff member casually greets you but doesn’t really engage with you otherwise. You don’t need staff to check in. The CitizenM app allows you to do the entire booking and check in process on your phone, you then walk to a self service counter and start the check in process.
Staff members are around in case you need help but I prefer not to talk to anyone. There’s keycards lying at the counter next to the check in screens and I just scanned the key card with my phone to activate it and get my room number. I got a high up room because I was asked in the app if I prefer lower down or higher up, that made me very happy.
I remembered that CitizenM gives you a free drink for booking on the CitizenM app. So after dropping my bags I went back downstairs for a delicious pineapple Margarita on the house. I spent a few minutes in the bar area to wind down before going back up to my room.
The room’s small, but comfortable. It is completely soundproof so you can experience a view without any noise. I loved watching the planes through the huge window before falling asleep. The room comes with a little iPad you can use to change the settings of your light, to close the blinds, and to switch the TV on. I’m very impressed. The shower was comfortable, hot water, great pressure, perfect.
I chose to have breakfast at the hotel which was bookable and payable within the app as well. They serve great barista coffee, even fancy stuff like matcha lattes or hot chocolates made to order. And the buffet was small but had exactly what I needed: eggs, bacon, bread, some sweet things like mini pancakes, pastries, fruit salad, yoghurt and more. I also love their attention to detail. They have small glass jars with Heinz ketchup, mayo and mustard you can take.
Overall a 9/10 experience for Piotr Rakun. The only way this hotel could have been better would be some more space in the room for a desk and more space in general. But none of this is necessary. An almost perfect hotel."
